York AC Error Codes: What They Mean & What to Do

York organises its codes by letter, and the letter tells you which side of the system reported the fault: E codes are indoor-side and control faults, F codes are outdoor, inverter and sensor faults, and P codes are protection trips that stop the system to prevent damage. Multi-split and commercial installations add a separate CCM network fault series, which belongs to the building-controls domain rather than to a single unit.

How do York AC error codes work?

York E codes cover indoor-side and control faults such as sensors, EEPROM and indoor–outdoor communication. F codes cover the outdoor unit — IPM module, compressor current, discharge temperature, fans and outdoor sensors. P codes are protection trips such as coil freeze-up, high discharge pressure and compressor overcurrent. On multi-split and commercial systems, 00# to 03# codes report CCM central-controller communication faults instead.

Where the code is displayed — and why it matters

The same fault can be labelled differently depending on which display you read it from, so identify the display before looking the code up.

Indoor unit display
Shows the E, F or P code on residential splits.
Wired wall controller
Shows the same code set, often with the affected zone on multi-split systems.
CCM central controller
Shows the 00# to 03# network fault series — a different fault domain from the unit codes.

How the families differ

  • A single split reports faults for one indoor/outdoor pair, so an E7 communication fault narrows to wiring, terminations or the boards at either end.
  • Multi-split and commercial systems add the CCM network series, where a fault can affect a whole group of units without any single unit being defective.
  • York's VRF-specific YVAM and YMAE code sets were not isolated in our source material and are therefore not published here.

A network and building-controls fault domain rather than a refrigerant or electrical fault in one unit.

Before you act on a code

  • P-series codes are protection trips: the system stopped deliberately, so clearing the code without finding the cause invites repeat failures.
  • E0 and P7 indicate incoming supply phase problems — an electrical supply issue, not an AC fault, and it should be checked by a qualified electrician.
  • York VRF-specific code sets are still in technical review and are not published here.

York error codes — common questions

What does York E7 mean?

E7 is a loss of communication between the indoor and outdoor unit. The fault is in the link — interconnecting wiring, terminations, or the control boards at either end — rather than in the cooling circuit. One power cycle is reasonable; a code that returns needs inspection.

What does York EE mean?

EE reports a water level switch or condensate drain fault. In Dubai this is a commonly reported summer fault, because high humidity produces a large volume of condensate and a partially blocked drain fills the tray faster than it can empty.

Is York F1 serious?

F1 is an IPM power module thermal or current protection trip on the outdoor unit. It is a high-severity electronics fault, so the unit should be left off and inspected rather than reset repeatedly.

My whole floor's York units show faults at once — why?

On multi-split and commercial installations the CCM network series (00# to 03#) reports communication faults between the central controller and the boards or gateways it manages. A single network or gateway fault can therefore surface across many units at the same time.
