- In fan or dry mode, or with a set point above the room temperature, the outdoor unit is correctly doing nothing. Many systems also hold the compressor off for several minutes after a start or a power interruption, so an outdoor unit that has not started yet may simply not have finished waiting.

- A controller that thinks the room is already cool enough stops calling for cooling. The indoor fan keeps running, which is exactly why this presents as 'blowing but not cold' rather than as a failure.

- Systems monitor their own operating conditions and stop rather than damage themselves. A condenser coil matted with dust, an obstructed unit, or a very hot enclosed location all push a system towards that point. The component itself may be healthy; the conditions it has been asked to work in are not.

- Stored items, a cover left on, plants or a boxed-in balcony recirculate the unit's own hot air. This is one of the few contributing factors a customer can genuinely correct — by clearing the space around the unit, not by touching it.

Can I reset my AC myself?
