What you can check, and what needs a technician
Safe to check yourself
- Check the AC breaker in your DB board and any isolator switch near the outdoor unit — both units need power for the two halves to communicate.
- After a power cut, wait at least ten minutes before judging the fault: the under-voltage relay required on Dubai AC circuits holds the unit off for several minutes and is regularly mistaken for a breakdown.
- Note whether any servicing, fit-out or electrical work happened recently near the AC or its wiring run.
- Look at the outdoor unit from a safe distance: does the fan ever turn, and are there any obviously damaged or hanging cables? Look only — do not touch them.
- Record the exact code, which display is showing it, and the indoor unit's model number before calling anyone.

- Do not open indoor or outdoor unit panels — communication and mains wiring share the same terminal area.
- Do not repeatedly power-cycle the system to clear the code; clearing it without diagnosis only hides the fault.
- Do not rewire, reseat or swap terminal connections.
- Do not test anything electrically yourself, even with a multimeter — these terminals sit alongside live mains.

For the attending technician — these steps involve live equipment or sealed systems and are not homeowner checks.
- Confirm supply at both the indoor and outdoor unit, and that the isolator and breaker are healthy.
- Inspect and test the interconnecting communication conductors end to end for continuity, damage and correct termination.
- Inspect terminal blocks for corrosion, loosening and heat damage before condemning any board.
- Verify polarity and addressing where the system uses them — address conflicts produce communication faults with intact cabling.
- Check the communication signal against the manufacturer's own specification for that model.
- Test the indoor control board, then the outdoor control board — last, once supply and wiring are proven.
- Establish whether the fault follows a specific board, cable or unit, so the failed item is proven rather than assumed.
- On multi-split installations, confirm each indoor unit is wired to its intended port — mis-paired zones can present as a communication fault.
About resetting
Switching the system off at the wall or breaker, waiting ten minutes and switching it back on is reasonable once — it lets a stale code clear and rules out the post-outage restart delay.
When not to reset: Do not keep resetting it if the code returns. On systems where several indoor units share one outdoor unit, repeated resets can let a fault cascade across zones, and they always destroy the evidence a technician needs.

Can I fix Gree E6 myself?
You can confirm that both units have power and wait out the post-outage restart delay. If the code stays after that, the wiring, addressing and board diagnosis needs a qualified technician — those terminals share the enclosure with live mains.
Is Gree E6 dangerous?
It is a protective stop rather than a hazard: the system refuses to run because its two halves cannot coordinate. The real risk is repeatedly resetting it to force operation, which hides the underlying fault.
Can I reset Gree E6?
Once, yes — switch off, wait ten minutes and switch on again. If the code returns, it is a live fault and further resetting only removes the evidence a technician needs.
Can wiring cause Gree E6?
Yes. Disturbed, damaged or wrongly terminated interconnecting wiring is one of the most frequently found causes, particularly after servicing, fit-out or renovation work near the AC.
Can a control board cause Gree E6?
It can, and it is why the code exists — but a board is only implicated once supply, wiring, terminals and addressing have been proven good. A board replaced on assumption often leaves the fault in place.
How is Gree E6 diagnosed?
In order of cost and likelihood: confirm supply to both units, test the interconnecting communication wiring, inspect terminals, verify addressing where applicable, check the communication signal against the manufacturer's specification, and only then test the indoor and outdoor boards.
