- Inspect the sensor harness end to end, and the connector at the board, for chafing, pinching, heat damage, corrosion and partial seating.
- Test the sensor circuit for an open or short condition, isolating whether the reading originates at the element, the harness or the connector.
- Compare the sensor's characteristic against the manufacturer's published specification for that model at a known temperature.
- Verify sensor placement and thermal contact where the sensor reads a pipe or coil — a displaced sensor produces a valid-looking but wrong reading.
- Assess the operating condition the sensor reports — airflow, coil cleanliness and circuit behaviour — so an accurate reading of a real fault is not mistaken for a sensor defect.

About resetting
Switching the system off at the wall or breaker, waiting ten minutes and switching it back on is reasonable once. It shows whether the code is live or stale, and how quickly it returns is itself diagnostic information.
When not to reset: Do not keep resetting it. A sensor code that returns is reporting something real, repeated resets remove the history a technician would use, and on a discharge or pressure sensor fault they let the system keep running without the protection that sensor provides.
